Part of the province of Salzburg

The Pinzgau

Pinzgau was first mentioned in a document in 923. However, as the largest district in the province of Salzburg, it does not have the most inhabitants, which is due to the landscape with its many mountains.

A special kind of holiday

In Pinzgau you will find dreamlike landscapes and unspoilt nature. Whether in the Hohe Tauern, the Kitzbühel Alps, the Chiemgau Alps, the Steinernes Meer, the Loferer and the Leoganger Steinberge - you will find mountains everywhere. The valleys in between offer different fauna and flora and are therefore each interesting in their own right and definitely worth a visit. Of course, you should also actively experience the mountains and glaciers. Take one of the many cable cars in the region up to the mountains and peaks, such as the Kitzsteinhorn and Weißsee glaciers, the hiking and skiing areas of Schmitten in Zell am See, Asitz in Leogang-Saalbach, Hochkönig in Maria Alm, Kitzbüheler Alpen in Bramberg and Wildkogel here in Neukirchen. Of course you can also visit these mountains on foot or by mountain bike.

Swim in the dark blue lakes or the hundreds of turquoise blue and ice-cold mountain lakes. Ride your bike on the famous Tauern cycle path towards Zell am See and take the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn, a narrow-gauge railway with a steam locomotive, back again. Or climb a mountain pasture or a mountain with marvellous views on a mountain bike.

You can also visit one of the many natural wonders in the region. The "Saalachtal forces of nature" - Vorderkaserklamm, Seisenbergklamm and Lamprechtshöhle - in the Salzburger Saalachtal, the Sigmund-Thun-Klamm in Kaprun or the Kitzlochklamm in Taxenbach. Mystical caves and show mines, such as the "Entrische Kirche" in the Gastein Valley, the Hochfeld show mine here in Neukirchen, the adventure show tunnel in Mühlbach or the show mine with museum in Leogang are also worth a visit. Also a hike to the Kaprun high mountain reservoirs. A trip by car to the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3,798 metres, is highly recommended.
