Neukirchen am Großvenediger - the highest mountain in Salzburger Land at 3,657 metres, which is mentioned in the name of our town, is best climbed from Neukirchen. A summit tour to the Großvenediger is a real high mountain tour. Climbing the highest peak in Salzburger Land requires a good level of fitness and alpine experience. The first summit victory on the Großvenediger was only achieved 40 years after the first ascent of the Großglockner on 3 September 1841 by Josef Schwab (known as Hausstetter Sepp).
If you have conquered the Großvenediger, you can be proud of having climbed the fifth highest mountain in Austria.
